Emberwood swallows circling with their shimmering sound

Grayday did not know how long they laid there, dozing in and out of peaceful half-sleep. Several times, he woke to the sounds of hunting owls or chattering foxes, but his children were big enough now that Grayday no longer feared they'd be taken by night birds, and the foxes gave the scent of wolves a wide enough berth.

Twilight found them curled and rested, soon to be awoken by the excited chatter of the kids.
