He shook his head, a smile coming to his face. "Not at all, but I came here so tired, a herd of moose wouldn't have caught my eye," Shale chuckled. He drew in a long, steady breath, trying to smell what she referenced. Perhaps. . . "You could be on to something," he admitted, lifting his shoulders in a shrug. There was a certain faint, pungent odor in the air he couldn't place.

"Nice to meet you. I'm Shale," he responded, giving up on the pursuit of the smell. He wasn't invested enough to care much; it was probably carrion nearby, anyway. The vultures would see to it, if they hadn't began already.

"You're new," Shale continued, cocking his head, his phrase more a statement than a question. "How long have you been here?"
