He feels suffocated as he stirs to consciousness. Trapped and overheated, the boy squirms and whines softly in Evergreen's embrace. His effort to free himself is half-hearted, however, fading as he wakes fully and recalls the morning's events. He goes still after a few moments, focusing on keeping his breathing even. It'll be fine, he tells himself, he'll wake up soon. Or he'll roll over and suffocate me. He pushes the last thought away, a little ashamed. This moment would be enjoyable if he could breathe.
Winterbourne's voice is low and raspy due to a throat injury during his childhood, and it can sometimes be difficult to understand him.
