He paused as she spoke, but then continued forward, taking a seat on the same ledge a comfortable distance away. No, not quite, he answered. I picked up your scent a ways up the mountain, and I was curious, he added with a shrug, gaze fixed on the valley below. 

Looking up, he turned his gaze on her. It is a nice view, though. It wasn't often that he stopped to admire such things anymore. Is that that the only reason you came up here? he asked, his curiosity growing. He rarely met strangers these days unless they were at his borders, and that was usually a far more tense situation; he always had to be serious and businesslike, but here, he could just be another stranger exploring the mountain.
