More and more she became restless. The itch of it crept beneath her skin, feeding a flame of need that began to lick in her chest as she looked out across the Hollow each day. She lost count of how many times each day her eyes would longingly look in the direction of Arrow Lake—as if she were trapped within a nightmare, and if she could just wake up she would once more be within the arms of her stalwart lover.
But the cold of winter was a harsh reminder to the loss of his embrace, and refusing to return to a grave of empty promises, Ketzia instead began to range along the foothills of the mountain… searching, unwilling to admit openly what for.
The creek ran swiftly at her paws, and as she stood in the silence of the coming dawn, the pale dove stared to the waters, feeling hunger gnaw at her as she waited to see what the waters could offer. Solitude? Food?
As the moments ticked by, she could only ruminate on how numb she had become the past months of her life.
