He lept at her like she'd expect him to do.
They always pounced.
And she expected it.

Because she'd already got a grip on the ground before her, she could throw herself backward and miss his outstretched claws, waiting to drag her into his clutches so he could kick her guts out.
She sidestepped, then lunged herself, hoping he may be unbalanced from relying on her being where he expected. She could perhaps make him fall on hit butt or something, but she knew she wouldn't last long against him and will have to run soon.
