His family's sushings breezed over Calhoun. He cared not for what they deemed "important" for their foundation, the High Elk would provide everything they needed so long as they showed unwavering faith. Before he had the chance to even respond a child appeared, one as scorned as the mother he claimed and hid beneath. Calhoun could care less for the boy, though he was kind enough to restrain himself for the child's sake. High Elk's or not, he seemed young and stupid with only time as a cure. He was followed by another, one more kind on the eyes through his God's light.
The first woman claimed that the apostles live to the East, though that wouldn't make sense. They had just traveled all over the east and had no signs of their God, not to mention if they were that far, this apostle would be a part of another herd. It seemed Odessa also caught on to the strange intel as their sign disappeared in the opposite direction. This woman was trying to throw them off course.
The hunter's muzzle wrinkled in protest as his own fangs were shown the light. A growl rumbled in his throat as his tongue flicked out and slid easily along his teeth, yet he did not dare move a muscle. They still outnumbered these...Firebirds. He did not fear them, no, he remained still for at last he and Célnes saw eye to eye. A foolish mother was not worth the expense of energy that could be used to track the apostle. He would let words put her in her place.
Slowly Calhoun let the snarl fall from his muzzle as he held his head up with the strength of his God. The Deorwine were proud people and he would back his King if it showed the strength of his family. Kingslend would not be fooled and the mother was a fool to think she had the right to even challenge them.
