Senses piqued by movement outside his view, Leshen lifted his head up to see the darker of the two Riversong sisters appear at the denmouth. Her stance was laden with haughtiness, and she looked down on him with the same utter contempt that he knew he felt for her. The goblin would have liked nothing more than to express to her that the feeling was mutual, but Count Ira had made it infallibly clear that the children were not to be harmed. Especially her own.
He glared at Nutmeg, briefly repressed by his memory of the queen mother’s command, but now that he was feeling reenergized, he also no longer felt the need to keep to his corner and shun his would-be opponents for his own comfort.
The boy stood upon his spidery, untrained legs, and slouched towards the Kaistleoki princess. He stopped at a single pace before reaching her, then stood at attention, his tail lifting into a high, dauntless wag that could invite either challenge or play with its uncertain tempo. Leshen was raring to move his body again, and Nutmeg’s presence had given him the catalyst needed to bring himself out of this proverbial pit. Even if he was just waltzing into a potential fight.
