All day, the clouds were dark. Inky, gloomy.
And all day, Eldritch watched with worry as the growing storm crawled closer to Blackfeather Woods.
Santiago was gone.
Everyone except Mati was gone...
By sunset, the scarlet sky was completely overcast in murky gray, and the winds were picking up.
"Mati! We need to find shelter!" The Seer called above the growling sky and hard wind. She knew Aerenys was never very far, but...there was no answer that she could make out.
And suddenly, a slash of lightning blew into the Woods, making the crows and ravens cry and scatter.
Too close...too close...
Smoke...
Another lighting bolt to the trees.
Fire. There was fire...
It was growing. Spreading, infesting and destroying-
"MATI!!!!" Eldritch screeched, sprinting through the forest in frantic effort to find her spirit-kin.
Ten minutes...fifteen...by nearly thirty minutes of running, searching, everything was engulfed. Smoke was thick and it was hard to breathe.
"MATI! WE NEED TO GET OUT OF HERE!" El cried, coughing horribly and squinting through the blaze.
Where was she?!
Eventually, Eldritch found herself at the edges of Blackfeather, heaving and uncharacteristically scared, worried...tears streamed down her face as she took a breath, screaming, roaring one last time for Aerenys. Yet the call was muted as a blast of lightning hit the ground close enough to Eldritch that she was sent flying, sprawling, yards away.
"Mati..." Eldritch whimpered, watching with deepening sadness as the Woods burned. Breath shaking, Eldritch scrambled unsteadily to her paws and ran. Which direction, to where, she didn't know. All she knew now was that Blackfeather Woods was no longer her home, and for the first time in what felt like forever, she felt truly, utterly alone...
...Where would she go now?
