"Gosh, I didn't even know he had a daughter," Pukei continued breathlessly, barely letting Yukimi get a word in as she spoke her worries aloud. What had started as a friendly, casual conversation between the travelling partners had swung back to Akavir's announcement. It had been a lot to take in all at once: his late daughter, a contagious sickness, the Great Hunt, and now they had been called to spread word to a nearby pack.

"And she was his eldest, too, right? That poor man," her voice trailed off as she scuffed a forepaw against the grass, feeling embarrassed now at her comment to their alpha. 'Did you fall into a river or something?' – ugh, stupid.

Trying not to dwell, the girl offered a grin to Yukimi, thankful she had been paired off with someone similar to her age. It seemed she was new to Swiftcurrent, but the Delta hadn't had a chance to spend much time with her. Now was as good a time as any, at least!
