lucifer let out a low hum of amusement, the smirk on his lips widening as he listened to her speak. ah, so the queen has a rebellious streak, he drawled, his tone laced with tease. letting your son chase shadows while you stroll the wilds. a bold strategy, ma chère. perhaps he’ll learn something from the chase—or at least from your absence.

he shifted, finally rising from the snow with an easy, fluid grace, shaking off the frost that clung to his dark coat. his ashen gold eyes followed her nod towards the vale below, lingering on the landscape for a moment before returning to her face.  

it is lovely, he admitted, his voice softer now, though no less rich. thriving, even in the grip of winter. a testament, i imagine, to its queen. not many can keep a kingdom alive when the world turns so cold.
