his ears flick at her words, but he doesn’t reply right away. instead, he studies the path ahead, eyes tracing the jagged tear in the earth and the tangle of branches littering the trail. the destruction is stark, but it doesn’t faze him.

“seen worse,” he mutters.

without waiting, he moves forward, his steps fluid as he weaves through the wreckage. each motion is careful, practiced, his large frame surprisingly agile as he avoids unstable ground and sharp debris.
