The Aha was quick to change his tone and subsequently the tone of the conversation. Elwood calmed slightly, realizing that Peregrine was kidding -- for the most part. He had no problem with others' sexuality and wasn't one to judge, but the bluntness of the question had caught him off guard. Even now, Peregrine tried to coax him into admitting his "true feelings," so Elwood managed a small smile in response.
"I'm pretty sure I'm not, but if anything changes, you'll be the first to know," he promised. He hesitated for a moment, wanting to segue the topic and talk about Finley, but he refrained. He couldn't make sense of his thoughts about her, so how could he articulate them into words?
