A strong wind gusted across the face of Redtail Rise, buffeting Saena on its ascent over the ridge's peak. She stood on the edge of a cliff overlooking the eastern half of the taiga.  The redtailed hawks circled low, and together with the gathered grey clouds and the whipping wind, it was a sign of an oncoming storm. The wolf wasn't bothered by its imminence, and relished the opportunity to predict the weather, something she hadn't done in a long time.

She knew it would come soon, ten minutes tops, but even so, she didn't take cover. Rather, she lay herself down on the ridge and stared out at the horizon. For a week or two since encountering and chasing Sebastian off, Saena had kept busy, and had managed to keep her thoughts away from the incident and what she'd learned. Now that she was alone with nothing but the wind and mounting humidity to occupy her time, her mind wandered, and for the first time in weeks, Saena's frame collapsed in on itself with the weight of exhaustion and grief.

As the rain began to fall, Saena buried her face in her forearms and wept. She wept for her splintered family, for the stress she and her pack had all been under. She wept for Arion, who was so torn over his drug addiction that he was hardly himself, and she wept for Reek, who seemed permanently depressed. She wept for Smash who had left them, and for those wolves whose presence was lacking here. She wept for her family in Blacktail Deer Plateau... but mostly, she wept for Junior, whom she would never see again.
