He shifted and buried his head beneath his paws in place of a blanket. The darkness of the cave enveloped him— and the silence, it was still. Despite taking refuge in the quiet cave, in Reek's head it was anything but calm. His thoughts were turbulent and loud like a stormy sea, and he was rolling over with violent intensity like a castaway caught in a summer squall. His stomach, it knotted up and lurched as if his gut were full of static and mothballs. He wanted to move -- yet at the same time it felt pointless, as if he had no energy for even the most simple of tasks.

And so, he would remain still until his sudden spell of grief passed. He had not looked to see if either Vuk or Terich occupied the cave with him (he simply assumed Vuk was present on account of Seff), but his assumption was answered when he felt a soft touch on his hip. It first startled him, his body tensed, but after turning his head around to see Vuk's face looking back at him he let himself relax. "Vuk," he whispered -- expression wrought with both gratitude and sorrow. He would break, but would not break alone.

"It's my fault," he mumbled, laying his head back down on his forepaws. "All of it." Of course, she didn't know the context. She didn't know Reek's misunderstanding over the fate of his children. All she could see was a broken, lonely man in need of companionship.
