The decision had not been an easy one to make, admittedly. She enjoyed her reign as queen but the choices had presented themselves to her before she'd given birth. She was indisposed and would be for quite some time. Her role as mother had become more important and more precious to the shield-maiden then her role of power and she did not wish to have to choose one of them over the other. Sure, a balance could be struck but one would always be more neglected than the other and this was not fair to either side. Besides, it was not as if she was letting Sleeping Dragon to the wolves. The pack would be in Thuringwethil's capable paws, while Gyda would be able to turn her attentions to solely being a mother to her children. Things would change, the valkyrie assumed, but she was ok with this. Change wasn't bad, it was a natural part of life, of the ebb and flow of time.

She heard footfalls approach and heard Gavriel's depart.
