Slavik had been very confident in his ability to open the strange fruit, until he tried it and found it to be more like a spongy rock than a fruit or nut. There was a pause where nothing was said, Slavik worked at their prize while Speedy sat contemplatively. Then she asked a question that crossed his mind often, where he would go for the winter. He squeezed his jaws as tight as he could, and finally there was a pop. For a moment he feared the sound was his own teeth popping out, but luckily he could taste a sweet trickle that wasn’t blood, but the warm milk of the coconut.

With a satisfied rumble he rolled the ball back over to Speedy, licking his lips and taking in the sweet flavor.
