The girl was but a day old, now, and absolutely nothing had changed. Her routine was easy, simple: sleep, eat, void. Her mother tended to her dutifully, and she wanted for little — nothing but more warmth, more milk, more contact. With time, she would grow of course, but for now, she remained a small white blob, eyes closed, blinded against the world, her ears clamped tight, deafening her.

After waking from a nap, the whelp whimpered, crawling towards the scent of her mother's milk. She would latch and guzzle for a solid ten minutes before inching her way to lay curled up beside her brother.
