Here it is! @Scimitar, @Bazi, @Kaskara and @Kieran know of Falwasi's departure and return, though all welcome to post as a reaction to her call. I'm gonna miss this :(

Mature Content Warning

This thread has been marked as mature. By reading and/or participating in this thread, you acknowledge that you are of age or have permission from your parents to do so.

The participants have indicated the following reason(s) for this warning: Graphic violence.

The doe lay on the floor, blood spilling from her honey sides and staining the white flecks she wore on her pelt. Falwasi moved forward slowly, silently — she didn't want to scare the creature. In spite of her urge to finish the aggressor's (most likely a bear, perhaps a coyote) sloppy seconds, she had to take a closer look.

As she approached the doe, a clearer view of her injuries was allowed. Her heart, just about visible beneath her torn flesh, pumped violently, trying to circulate whatever blood had been spared. Her neck was torn, revealing a sheet of muscle, and blood trickled from her nostrils. The mountain wolf stood above the animal, who began to struggle under Falwasi's presence, observing it. Why did the doe try so hard? She must have known she was going to die, to succumb to the darkness that even Falwasi could see was encompassing her. The wolf could not accept how the doe's heart could continue to pump so vigorously, so desperately, clinging onto her fraying rope of hope. So she severed the last piece of string that bound the doe to life.

Metallic blood filled her mouth as Falwasi clamped her jaws down on the doe's carotid artery, terminating her existence. She recoiled at the bite, her buzz dying hard as she put the creature out of its misery. It didn't taste good — her false hope didn't taste good.

The sun had set and the blazing ring of gases disappeared below the horizon, leaving the world engulfed by a sea of indigo. When the sun was setting, Falwasi sat perched atop Nova Peak, the wind soft against her lithe body, her copper eyes ablaze with the colors of the sun mingling in the distance. It was the most beautiful thing she had ever seen.

The memory lingered in her mind now as she sat in juxtaposition with the dark forest that surrounded her home like a fort. The dense foliage had offered the female a familiar sense of security not only during the first few weeks of their arrival, but also now as she looked into the deep array of aromatic pines. Only now, in the heart of the evening, did she realise how reluctant she was to part ways. Even though she knew with all her soul she would be back, she didn't know if she could return. And then it hit her.

The doe hung on because it wanted to. Because it had to. Because, in spite of the odds not being in her favor, her will was so strong that she could. And if Falwasi was pouring and spilling and surrounded by death fighting for in, she would hang on. Because she wanted to. Because she had to. Because, in spite of the odds not being in her favor, her will would be so strong that she could. She would return.

The tawny female's voice aroused, her song filling the night with intensity, melancholy, sanguineness and spirit. It spoke so much that she closed her eyes because there were too many words floating about in the air around her. Her howl lasted for her breath, quieting to a steady hum and dissipating into silence.

She turned to look at her home one last time, before loping into the wood, feet becoming yards and yards becoming miles.
