When the girlchild was sufficiently clean - it didn't take long - Amayo stood and ambled back into the den, stepping carefully over her sleeping husband as she did. Inside the warm, sandy cucoon, she paused only to bathe the back of the man's neck before curling up and dropping back into sleep.

Whether or not Qilaq came back in, Amayo assumed she would be fine. The only thing that would hurt her was the sea, and if the worst should happen, she would at least rest easy knowing that it was the will of the Wickedness, and that the scared rites of the Drop had finally been acknowledged.
