backdated a while
trembling, she'd run, before the rational part of her mind that had fled in the face of pure fear had returned. she moved to help her mother then, gaze sizing up her torn-up limb fearfully. her own hocks were torn and bloodied, and her forelimb was weak against her weight. she could not think of a cause for this, the odd trembling that seemed not to affect her similarly torn left, and could devote no thought to this now.

at the borders she paused, howling once before moving back to the side of her mother, lending @Portia all the strength she could. she attempted a few more steps into the territory before faltering, tongue lolling and wide gaze still holding much of their fear and shock.

once they had escaped and were far from the two beasts, portia tried to steady herself. she tried. tried so hard to be okay. to not fret-- not here, not in front of dalia. but this was not something she was used to-- nothing she'd ever experienced. and once the adrenaline had left her system she was left with the searing pain of torn flesh and a broken bone, and she had to work overtime to focus on anything other than the pain. so she was silent. though she felt nothing right now-- it was just shock. portia was in shock.

they arrived at the borders and, even in her haze, she was aware of where they were and what had happened. she called, urgently, with a shaky howl for @Thuringwethil and @Dio, hoping they brought supplies. but why would they? this was her job. this was what she was supposed to do. she sat slowly, holding her broken forelimb up limply and pitifully. she looked at dalia with concern-- still lost for words.

From elsewhere on the borders, he came rushing to the howls full tilt. They did not bode well, and he didn't need to think twice to answer immediately, not in these times where he trusted nothing beyond their very own. Eventually, smelling blood--and his daughter and wife--sights of all else fell away even more than before. Old aches in his bones didn't matter, wherever he had been aimed prior on whatever stretch of patrol.. all so easily ignored. Instead, he had to find out what this was right now.

He saw them and his heart sank. Relief was mixed at best. They were alive but battered. His hackles were tall, he was tense, and eyes searching viciously as he closed in. At the very first instant, there were no words. He swept quickly to Dalia first, licking her muzzle and hovering so he may see her shock and wounds in full--then to Portia.. and her leg, and he whined in lieu of all the questions and panic he felt with his heart racing in his throat when he couldn't get the words out.

"What the hell happened?" he breathed, finally having gathered that this was a starting point. Were they even alright enough? He hated seeing them, seemingly brutalized. "Where? What--" he half-circled them both, unsure of what to panic over first and how to try to protect them now that such damage was already done by who-knew-what. It was good they were home but this was only the bare minimum out here at their edges; he'd be happier with them tucked into their heart, honestly. None of it was made any easier to have the medic wounded here. "Tell me how to help," he murmured, ducking low to nudge his face against Portia's cheek.

Thuringwethil doesn’t have a tight knit relationship with every member of the pack. She’s spent more time with Dalia when she was a child than as an adult and with a lot of the last few months being gone, it is not a surprise they did not spend much time together upon her return from war. However, it does not slow her reaction when she hears the first broken howl, followed by another that causes her to push herself a little bit harder.

She is not the first to arrive. Of course, Dio arrived earlier and already trying to assess the situation and Thuringwethil doesn’t know how to fit in. She’s careful not to get too close, but she’s worried, and she rumbles low. The scents on their pelts are not necessarily familiar but she bristles, licks her lips, and circles back around.

The request to be told how to help doesn’t make the situation any better. This is where they would call Portia but when it’s the medic that needs fixing, they can’t rely solely on her to give them the 101 when her leg is clearly broken. Her ears twitch and she lifts her head and howls for someone, for @Wildfire, for @Rose, for anyone that might know something, and they need extra paws to help the two injured girls safely.

some slight pp, let me know if anything needs changed!

The moment the first desperate howl rung out over the territory, Rose had pressed pause on whatever she had been doing and immediately turned to head for her herb cache. Sure enough another call echoed throughout the air, only this one was directed at her. She quickly grabbed the usual first aid supplies she had stashed away and not a moment later was heading off in the direction the howl had come from. She arrived in short time and found she had unfortunately been correct in her initial gut feeling that something terrible had happened. Her chest tightened at the sight of the mother-daughter duo, teeth clenching down hard on the plants in her mouth. She takes a moment to assess the situation from afar, eventually deciding that Potia was in a more critical condition than Dalia.

She took to the opposite side that Dio stood across from, nose carefully investigating the torn up leg. She stood quiet for a moment, unsure how to go about handling the delicate injury. After sucking in a deep breath to clear her mind, Rose dropped the herbs in her mouth and looked up to the concerned Wocha. "Give these to her" she commanded, leaving little room for argument or doubt before pushing a handful of poppy seeds and thyme in the male's direction. They would help with the shock and some of the pain for now, though with them being mixed with exhaustion, they may very well completely knock the Fisa out.

Once the herbs were with Dio, Rose moved over to Dalia, eyes glued to her torn flesh. Her injuries were something the aspiring healer was much more familiar with and Rose felt herself relax a little. "Here, chew these" she said, nose pushing a few pieces of willow bark in the girl's direction. She didn't wait for a response before shuffling over to the actual injuries. She grabbed a few argimony roots and began to chew them up until they formed a thick paste in her mouth. Once they were grounded down well enough she leaned forward and applied a thin layer overtop the wounds, ignoring any signs of protest there might have been.

Finished with her basic treatment, her blue eyes flickered over to search for Heda's gaze. "We need to move them, I have more herbs that will help with their injuries back at my den" she revealed, eyes shifting over to Portia to make sure she had taken her given dosage. Rose had to admit it was a bit intimidating to be caring for the resident healer, but the kru was confident in her abilities and hoped both women would trust her enough to let her help them in their time of need.

nomi invited me :D

The cries from the border may not have been for him, but they were enough to draw the young wolf from his hunt. His prospects hadn't been promising anyway, and besides, he was rather near to where the voice had sounded and already. He cantered steadily along the borders, wondering what the trouble might be but not feeling overly concerned. There was worry and anxiety in the tone, but nothing screamed immediate danger to him. But when nomi's howl rang out, his pace quickened drastically. When Thur's tone carried anxiety, the young soldier knew to move faster.

Artaax slipped almost silently onto the scene, his mismatched eyes shifting from one wolf to the other as he assessed the situation. Rose stole his attention first. Because she was talking, not for any other reason... She was working feverishly, shoving plants or pieces of trees or whatever towards Portia and Dalia who he soon realized were the reason they had come. He'd never seen them so mangled, had never smelled their blood so thick in the open air before. His hackles prickled to attention as anger boiled gently in his belly and he stepped towards Thur, glancing at her for instruction, even though the love of his life Rose had already given her own.

she'd never been so happy to see dio in her whole life-- besides maybe his return from the war. he circled them, leaving portia only to whine-- come closer"broken," portia said softly, forcing her face into dio's neck. she held her paw up just barely off the ground. it hurt to raise it and it hurt to put it down, so it just held limply-- which still hurt. he nudged her cheek, and she pulled back only when heda arrived. though she asked for no information, portia knew to supply it.

"we were gathering herbs at the garden outside drageda, two men attacked us... drogon and... rumil--" she looked to her daughter for confirmation, but didn't stop herself, "i don't know who they were or... or what they want, their attack was unprovoked."

rose came soon after-- and artaax as well. and though she listened easily when rose gave command to eat the seeds, stubbornly, portia shook her heda. "my den," she said firmly, "there is more there." of course portia hated not being able to mend herself, it was her job after all. but if someone else was going to do it, they were going to use her own supply.

His worried thoughts were yearning to dart in every direction at once. He can't see enough, nor discern enough with the vague scents and the worrisome injuries presented before him, and only feels the indefinite feeling of defeat. He knew he wanted her and Dalia both somewhere safer, deeper--just closer, wherever they could be treated the best and most mindfully so they could sort this out. Soon, as he pressed himself protectively against Portia, others came, Heda first among them and details soon followed. An ugly rage simmered in the pit of his stomach and he held his tongue tight against clenched teeth. Hows and whys came to him in a hurry, but looking at the both of them, he just wanted to get them away from everything, and protect--yet how? Now when the damage was already done?

Still, he rumbled deeply with the names taken to heart, and just when a thousand questions were on the tip of his tongue, Rose arrived. His ears splayed and she brought supplies, prompting him with a quick look between the medics to confirm before he did anything. Used to taking Portia's orders on these sorts of things (albeit not when she was the one wounded), he'd cooperate, and not get in anyone's way as he breathed deep the scent of the all the herbs between all of his glances at Portia's mangled leg.

With that, he was especially quick to take to the notion of getting them elsewhere, though. "I agree. I can help," he said, sure Artaax could too, although he'd bear the weight of them both if he had to--every last ounce that their injuries and fatigue would not allow. Portia requested her den, which was his ideal too anyway, but at their call, he was more than ready to get this moving on away from their fringes--wherever that was besides not here.

Rose shows up rather quickly (something she will take note on another day) and gets to work, despite Portia objecting to the help. Sort of. Thuringwethil narrows her eyes but stays close, knowing she won’t be of much use until they’re a better plan. She commits the two names to memory—Drogon and Rumil—and waits. When Portia urges them to her herbal den, and Dio agrees, Thuringwethil nods as if to announce it is okay. She gives Rose a thankful gesture, hoping she does not take offense to the healer’s wishes.

Before the begin to move her, she turns to Artaax as soon as she sees him and chuffs for his attention. “Find a few others and check the surrounding area,” she tells him, putting trust in the boy to organize a search party. After she dismisses him, she turns back to the group and offers whatever support she needs to get Portia from where they are to where they need to be.

Unfortunately for everyone involved, Rose was very much upset and annoyed that her judgment was being questioned. She had hoped that she’d finally be given a chance to prove her worth, but that idea immediately flew out the window the second Portia demanded they go to her den instead. Russet ears slicked back hard against the top of the Kru’s head while a flash of hurt swept over her features. A frown tugged at the corners of her lips and she tossed Portia a disapproving glance. The Fisa was in no position to be making demands but, seeing as how she had the strength to argue against the aspiring medic’s wishes, she obviously wasn’t in need of immediate treatment.

“Very well” she begrudgingly agreed, not feeling it was her place to argue against a higher ranked wolf no matter how idiotic she may believe Portia’s decisions to be at the moment. She looked towards Dalia to make sure the girl was still alright before glancing to both Heda and Dio, patiently waiting for them to give the signal that indicated they could begin heading for the Fisa’s den.

Taax out!

Artaax paid little attention to the movements around the injured pair. He didn't know medicine and he didn't care to, so it didn't matter to him the specifics. He wanted to hear the command to go hunt the fuckers down and make them pay. That was what he waited for, and it was what he... nearly... received. In a way. There was hunting involved, but only for backup to help him secure the territory's perimeter. It would do. Plus, it was an order. So, he gave a nod of acceptance and turned away promptly, sending out a short call for Eske, Blixen and whoever else might be around to join him as he set off to the borders to guard his packmates' backs.

portia argued no more. rose had access to her entire cache of herbs and medicines and remedies and she had full faith the girl was capable enough to treat her broken limb. of course, no one was better than her, so she did wish that it was herself treating her leg but... circumstances allowed for none of that, and this was the next best thing. she stood slowly, leaning on dio for support and ushering dalia on her father's other side-- though she truthfully may not have needed it.  and then they made their way to the fisa's den.

should we wrap this up?

Yes, but I want to give @Rose a chance to use this for her trade. <3 One more round? I’m breaking posting order so post whenever!

Artaax does as told and she doesn’t give it a second thought. Her attention immediately turns back to Portia, who by then has already demanding going back to her den. It’s not an unreasonable request but it takes Rose aback and she frowns and nods anyway. Thuringwethil comes around to one side to gently bump Rose’s hip with her nose to encourage the girl. She can’t explain what’s happening but she’s appreciated and she wants the kru to know that. There’s a lot of making up Drageda has to do for her but she can’t relay that all now and only hopes the younger girl will take comfort from her anyway.

After a beat she turns to the pair, calls for Dalia so Dio doesn’t have to bear the weight of two, and offers to walk with her until they get to the den.

He just wanted to do what this needed, whatever this way be. Worriedly, he was at Portia's beck and call to help her get where and what she needed, although really just wanted to get out of here and settling in elsewhere for a proper mending and rest. Even his baseline understanding of medicine just wanted to start there. But everything was one step at a time. His flashed a glance from commander to yearling as the latter was on his way to gather the others. In time, he would join them once all was said, done, and entirely handled elsewhere--so surely not so soon. Hopefully they could find something, somehow, and once more, a scowling stare swept the wounds etched onto his wife and daughter before he was on his way towards the stocked den well within their confines.

With everyone now agreed on a similar goal, Rose sucked up whatever bruised ego she had and tossed it away in the back of her mind where she could sulk later. For now she had a job to do and was determined to show everyone who decided to stick around for the treatment that she was just as capable of healing them as anyone else was thank you very much. So with both injured girls now each having their own support thanks to Dio and Heda, the Kru decided to take the lead and helped maneuver the group through the redwoods so that they would avoid any fallen trees or difficult obstacles. She looked back every now and then, once offering Heda a forced smile in return for the subtle encouragement she had received earlier. It had done little to boost her sour mood but hey, at least she was receiving some form of recognition.

The group eventually reached the Fisa’s den and Rose immediately got to work, tending to Portia’s injured leg first before moving on to Dalia. She shot a sympathetic look towards Dio but was honestly unable to relate to what he was going through. For the most part she had only ever had to worry about herself and the occasional patient she ran into on her journey. She couldn’t imagine what it’d be like to see family like this. But enough worrying about him! Rose turned back towards the two injured women and continued to treat them, occasionally asking where it still hurt and if they wanted any herbs for the pain. Once everything was said and done, Rose advised them not to push themselves too hard and to get plenty of rest. And speaking of rest, after everything the Kru had just gone through, she could really use a nap — which is exactly what she was going to do. She bid the girls and Dio (and Heda if she was still there) a farewell and told them to howl if they needed anything before heading off for her den where she was sure to sleep off any ill will she held for a certain spotted Fisa.
