Ravensblood Forest all we found was more despair

stupid, stupid mistakes -- what the fuck is with this place, anyway, she can't see anything! fuck! and branwen -- well, she'd lost track of the other girl somewhere between the river and the trees and it's all dark and sticky and vaguely red --

she's too old to be scared by thunder, for fuck's sake!

it hadn't even been a storm, just a summer lighting shower, but blixen's never had a good sense of direction and the clap of thunder had been so close and so loud the tiny, still-scrambled instinct-shaped part of her brain thought claws and roar and death upon you and she'd taken off before she could get ahold of herself. and now she's alone in a pitch black forest, her heart pouding wildly and her head throbbing, a migraine blosoming between her temples in the dark.

and it's so, so dark. so dark -- and so wild is her heart right now -- that she doesn't see the floor of the forest, doesn't see the branches on the ground until --

a sharp pain --  she topples, finally her panicked running stopped. breathing hard blix scrabbles against the earth, wincing as she tries to put weight on her paw and finds she can't. she looks around, eyes adjusted enough to recognize she's been through here before. right. okay, she can do this. right? branwen can't be that far off (someone's got to keep you alive) ... 

oh! the river. or down to a stream, really, but -- she can follow this back to the shore, surely.
