Rueger had followed the trail that Rannoch and Coelho left, but he was closer to the borders than he was to their physical location. When the call rang out, his blood ran cold in his veins. Rannoch was in trouble, and he assumed Coelho was with him. He kicked off with his back legs and ran as fast as he could through the prairie. 

When he saw the downed wolves, and the bear, his instincts kicked in. With a growl, he set his sights on the bear, fangs bared as he attempted to aimed himself at the murderer at full run.
