All Welcome

The sea is not something he's altogether familiar with, and yet he's settled in to a position along the cliffside that affords a wide view. He's staring down at the raging sea when the rain starts; at first he thinks he is imagining the small prickling of drops against his ears, his scalp, his shoulders — but soon the sky is opening up and the spitting becomes a salinated drizzle. Edmund doesn't hesitate to remove himself from the sharp ledge where he's been loitering for the past half hour or so, and sets his mind on more important ventures. Namely, proving himself, as the commander so adamantly required of him.

He wants to learn about these strangers, but they do not trust him and they have no real reason to. The most he can do — for his own gain — is try to listen in on their conversations as he passes them in the territory. This is difficult too, he finds. They do not speak clearly and while he develops a small understanding of the differences in the language, he cannot translate all of it. The few he does drift by become sullen, shooting him glances he chooses to ignore, and so he goes on his way without inturruption but also without further information.

You'd think that Edmund would be aware of his awkwardness, or at least his sociopathic vibe, but he's not.

this looks lonely :)

ah, edmund. blix still can't quite explain why she chose to give him a chance, except she's trying so hard to be different from what mallaidh said (correctly) she was, before. besides something tells her he's more harmless than the vibe he gives off, and if not.. well, between her, artaax and mallaidh, he couldn't do much damage anyway.

that doesn't mean she wants to like, hang out with him though. famously blix does not enjoy hanging out with most men, especially men like him she can't ever trust fully. so when she spots him there is a moment she considers turning on her heels and absconding, busying herself with patrol and leaving him to his devices.

except she's commander, and she's got him on trial, and so... ugh. fine. steeling herself, the small redhead makes her way toward her haunted brana, and barks, "keeping busy, edmund?"

If this ends up being super short, that's fine with me, lmao. He's so awkward!!!

It did not usually take him very long to adjust to his surroundings. It had been a while since his last foray in to pack life, which might've been evident by the way he'd gone about acquiring his lodgings; but generally speaking, he slipped in to the background of most places and did his work without issue. This place was only different because Edmund remained ignorant to the culture of the wolves living here. It was a large drawback, but one he hoped to remedy even if these strangers were resistant to his efforts. He could loiter in dark corners, or practice the words he'd overheard in private.

He wondered if that was necessary, and as he was considering his options there came a voice — that of the commander, who earns a pause and a sullen glance from the man. He does not like to lie, but he does not want to sound lazy or otherwise distracted even if he is. So he says the first thing (the easiest thing) to come to mind: Yes. And, he leaves it at that.

i love him ToT

well this was a mistake. his sulky look earns a disapproving frown from the commander, who still cannot determine if his monosyllabic answers and general disposition come from malice or from being a dumbass. either way he sets blix on edge -- she's not a great conversationalist herself to begin with, and having to drag answers out of him makes her tetchy.

still. "okay," she says, slowly, "what have you been doing?" there. nice, clear, direct, hopefully will get an answer that is more than just a yes or no. she wonders if she should maybe invent something specific for him to do while she's add it.

she doesn't get the chance -- his answer is vague and annoyance ripples through her. she doesn't have the energy to deal with him and his.. eccentricities. excusing herself, blixen retreats.
