Kavik padded through the snow, following the creek of his new territory. It reminded him of the one that ran through the middle of the plateau, and his heart tightened against the twinge of sadness that followed the thought. He knew it would be a while before he could return to what was once his home--not that he really had any desire to do so now; he considered that place to be cursed, and here was there home now. He had managed to get most of his packmembers here without much trouble, and wanted to continue to make the transition as smooth as possible. He tried not to dwell on his lost mate, but he still made trips through the mountain pass looking for her only to end up empty-pawed every time. He wouldn't give up, though. He would find her, even if it destroyed him. He still hadn't found Corvus either, and he hoped the male was safe wherever he was.

His steps came to a stop eventually, and he took a seat facing the water, watching as if flowed under the icy top layer. Soon this place would feel like home too, and he would do his best to make sure the others felt the same way.

Constantine had kept a close eye on Kavik and his wolves while giving them their space to grieve the loss of their home and the time to settle to their new one. From what he understood, they were missing some of their comrades, and Kavik was even missing his mate—a pain that Constantine could feel with the loss of his own son. Viinturuth had been found—but the injuries he had inflicted on his mother ensured the pale boy had become a stranger to his father.

Studying the thoughtful form of his newfound pack mate, it was with a sense of purpose that the proud Mayfair strode to the beasts side, his own stocky form settling next to Kavik’s in amicable companionship and silence. His own fiery eyes remained fixated upon the rushing waters, trying his hardest to find the peace within the creek, when his broken soul cried for the scent of the ocean.

“Kavik,” he finally offered, his tone gentle, a rumbling baritone. “You’re settling well?”
all you have is your fire

Kavik turned as the other man approached, offering him a dip of his inky head. Constantine, he returned. Yes, it has been, thankfully, uneventful, he added, turning back to the river. He and the rest of the plateau wolves had suffered enough to last for a long time; he just hoped the universe agreed with him on that. Kavik still wasn't fully convinced he wasn't cursed. He was almost certain the plateau held the same curse, and he constantly racked his brain to find whatever he had done to bring about such misfortune. Obviously he knew that sometimes bad things just happened, but it seemed that only bad things had happened from the moment they claimed the plateau to the moment it crumbled to pieces around him.

But there was hope here at the creek--Kavik could feel that much, and he would try to embrace his new life here in the hope that he could begin to find some peace, at least on some level.
