@Brook — but welcome to parents too!
Dawn, chilly & overcast outside.
Figured it would be a good idea to have an ongoing puppy thread so we can keep them active until they can actually do stuff!

He is hungry, as is his prerogative, and roots against his mother's belly. Kicking and squealing like a tiny piglet. He can't fathom having limbs to reach with - the dream of being that little seed sprouting has almost entirely faded now but sometimes he thinks he can smell the coming rain and lusts for it, missing aspects of a past life. When Stone's face collides with a warm surface he grips with his tiny o-shaped mouth and suckles. He is unaware that the flesh he's turning flush and pink is not his mother's, but his sister's — her cheek, specifically. A nice hickey will form if she does not protest. Eventually he tires of suckling because all the effort in the world cannot bring Stone sustenance - perhaps tears, but he does not wish harm on anyone, least of all his beloved twin. He releases her and crows with obnoxious whining until someone bigger comes along to pacify him.

Stone, as she would one day know him, did not bother her one bit. While some siblings in this world might fuss and carry on, Brook showed no signs of it with him. With plenty of food to be shared between the two of them, there was no fighting for it. They ate when they wished and did not have to struggle to get the best teat. She was content for now, and Brook stretched out comfortably on the den floor next to the big warm body that was so often there.

Stone had filled himself up to the point of bursting, so he had to take a break for a while and nap instead of eat. His belly was so full that he looked a lot rounder than before, and couldn't find a comfortable position for himself. Too much pressure on his tummy made him squeal, and rolling around was too easy, so he ended up on his back with his little paws waving in the air. He determined pretty quickly that he didn't like the feeling of the air against his toes, so he rolled and kicked and squirmed - until he managed to roll over to one side again, and drape his tiny feet across his sister in a pseudo-possessive manner.

The tiny arms along her back didn't bring her discomfort, but rather a sense of belonging. Her brother—or Stone, as she would one day call him—was never something to be pushed away. If anything, Brook tended to snuggle up to him, even when their parents were around. She made soft whimpering noises at him, but they were not sounds of distress. One of Stone's tiny paws popped into her mouth for a second, and she gummed it, her teeth far from their adult formation.

Moments bled together; the sounds and smells of bodies eddied in his periphery, but whenever possible Stone hurried to eat and then to nest beside his sister. When she came seeking comfort of him, he freely gave it. In the days to come they might grow closer, or apart, - it was impossible to tell in the brief glimpses of their lives at this point - but for now all that Stone felt was the warmth of her presence. That warmth was easy to associate with the good feelings of being fed, or groomed, or loved by their parents; so he began to attach the same feelings to his sister, burrowing in close and breathing in the sweet scent the children shared.

Minutes turned into hours, hours into days, and the two small pups would eventually grow into bigger pups, then adults. For now, they were little more than blank blobs, ready for yet another adventure that would end the same way as it had for all creatures on this planet. Death was, hopefully, far off for both of them, but only time would tell.

First their eyes would open - if they hadn't already - and then their ears would unfurl, and they'd find their footing; Stone wasn't destined for any grand athletic pursuits, although things were changing all the time within Swiftcurrent Creek, and even between his mother and father. Time would tell just what sort of creature Aditya and Dawn had produced; at the moment he was a blob of chocolate fur burrowing against his tawny sister, mewling and useless, grappling at one of her little ears or her perfect cheek to deliver slobbery nip-kisses to whatever he could reach.

The two continued to exist in bliss, happy as healthy puppies could ever be. Brook eventually dozed off, leaning against her brother and occasionally kicking her little feet and whimpering in her dreams. For now, this was all she ever needed. Later, she would want for more, but nothing else could make her more content right in this perfect moment.
