All Welcome
It came gently, at first. Flakes borne upon a chilly but calm wind, blanketing the already frosted ground. As the day went on, the weather picked up the tempo. It was not, however, until the sun began to set—muted by the clouds—that the real show began.

Night fell, but no matter. . .no one could see, anyway, past the pale and whirling madness. Drifts began to pile up upon the open plains, settling on the branches of the few trees scattered around. Whatever animals were left cried out, dashing away, seeking shelter.

Those were individuals destined to die. The smart ones would have holed up long ago with the first inkling of trouble.

Anyone caught out in the storm now would find themselves utterly lost. Even tracks, so useful in navigation, were quickly covered up by new snow. It was a night to bunker down, to watch the weather from a warm, safe place.

After all, the storm would cease soon enough. Storms always did, right?
