Blood flowed slower from the wounds already packed, and when footfalls signalled the man's return, she shuffled aside to work on his untended cuts while the man spread the freshly ground poultice over the ones she had turned from. When her supply of cobwebs ran dry, she fetched more. The trip took her further from the river, but the distance she travelled mattered little in the grand scheme, and she returned to continue her steady work alongside the grizzled man.
