After spending several years with Nanuq Kesuk, far from Seahawk Valley, Aktaie Nereides I eventually returned to Sirensong Cove to reunite with those of her daughters that still remained there — upon her arrival, she insisted they leave so that she might protect them from the spreading corruption. As she journeyed, she told them of a vision that had come to her while exploring the sea caves of Echo Cove, implying that Sirensong Cove— the territory she had been born in and once ruled over— was not the origin of the Nereides heritage as previously thought.

Upon discovering the sprawling, thriving Themiscrya Coast, Aktaie told the Protomedeia ("first queen") of the corruption that now ran rampant throughout the Nereides that had dispersed. Despite the dark news, she and her daughter, Ekho, were welcomed and settled into life on the coast— returned to the deep beliefs and rich traditions of the Nereides culture. Meanwhile, it became an utmost priority to send High Priestesses, Adepts, and the obedient Hoplites to stamp out the faraway branches that had distorted the true beliefs of the Nereides, while simultaneously created new and purified branches.

Mentha, daughter of Ekho, was raised entrenched in the culture and lifestyle of Themiscrya Coast, and she carries a deep knowledge of their ways and religious beliefs. Hard-working and devout, Mentha ascended to the rank of High Priestess— a position she covets, seeking no higher claim to power due to the belief that such duties required of a Matriarch would merely tear her attention to harshly from her Mothers and the Sea's Will.

Chosen twice for ritual breeding, Mentha first gave birth to a litter of three daughters and one spawn— naming one female pup after her grandmother, Aktaie. This daughter volunteered to lead a branch of the Nereides in her great-grandmother's honor after her death, though shortly after establishing Ankyra Sound, Aktaie II returned to Themiscrya Coast— claiming the Sea had Willed it. Unconvinced, Mentha saw her failed daughter punished, and gathered two of her youngest and a young ward to return to the Sound. She seeks to ensure its success in the wake of Aktaie II's abandonment.
