Riptide was the firstborn son of the Alphas and was raised in a dysfunctional family pack as a prince of the pack and future heir to the throne. But when the children were barely a month old, their father passed away, leaving their mother in charge of the pack. As if that wasn't bad enough already, his mother was a crazy woman who only wanted her children to marry 'proper' wolves, wolves who were of high status. She treated her children roughly and harshly, hammering her ways into their head.

One day, an accident happened to Riptide and ever since, he has severe claustrophobia as the accident happened in a small den. He has also suppressed the worst of the memories of the accident in his head, and therefore does not know what has actually happened to him.

One day, Riptide saw his mother abuse his girlfriend ruthlessly, causing her to cry and tell his mother that she would break up with him. He rushed into the scene but the girl had already ran away. He followed her but was too slow and watched as she fell from the cliff and died. That day, Riptide decided to leave his pack for good, and has been wandering ever since.
