Due to the abnormally early mating of her parents, Roia's litter was born during a blizzard in February of 2013. Two males and 3 females where born to this litter but due to the harsh conditions surrounding their birth and lack of game, each of the pups passed until only Roia remained. When spring finally awakened in Nahanni the she-wolf was a few months old and quickly took to playing on her own while being watched by her nurse. Although the pack was small, only 5 adults, they lived well and peacefully.

The next birthing season a litter of 4 were born and each survived pushing the pack's number to 9 in total. Meanwhile, a rivaling pack grew as well and needed more territory to sustain their growing numbers. One morning they attacked Roia's pack and ran down each member of her family, their cries of pain echoing along the valley. Even the pups, only a few months old, were murdered as well. Once again, Roia was the only one to survive and this time by sure luck. When the attack occurred, she had padded out alone to do some hunting for small game and upon returning she could only watch in horror as her pack was slaughtered. Two males from the pack picked up her scent and she ran. The two males were finally able to catch her due to a wildfire that blocked her path. With nowhere to go, and cornered she fought viciously with strength and wit. In the end, she lay bleeding and her hocks burned. Two dead bodies laid at her side. One with a torn out throat, and the other severely burned.

Over the next few months, Roia traveled as far away from her home as she could. Leaving the haunting memories behind and hardening her heart and body. The wounds slowly healed, although they hindered her hunting and forced the Drappa to rely on scavenging which reduced her weight considerably. Upon her arrival to Teekon she had spent months in solitary as a kerl, or lone wolf, while slowly healing and traveling.
