Adya was raised in the standard fashion by his mother, Lavendel. She was forced to leave her home due to human incursion (a group of juvenile humans walked dogs in the area and eventually trashed her den), and travelled from Echo Bay to Yellowknife whilst carrying pups in her belly. After birth, all four pups were weak and sickly, so Lavendel chose the strongest two - Adya and his sister, Rosmarin - to keep alive, and abandoned the others. Humans captured Adya when he was roughly a year old (for the purpose of breeding wolfdogs), and sold him off in Quebec, while Rosmarin was moved to Victoria Island.

Adya has been moving steadily south since them, having escaped from his 'owner'. The Teekon Wilds seem a very desirable place to live, completely free from human interference. Someday, he hopes to meet Rosmarin again, as unlikely as that is.

His mother's isolated nature, combined with a non-existent social life for the better part of a year, have resulted in Adya having a complete lack of common knowledge. He doesn't know what a 'pack' is, and is completely lost in a land without snow. If you asked him how to hunt any animal other than caribou and rabbits, he wouldn't be able to tell you. For all intents and purposes, he is a foreigner in a country he knows nothing about.
