The NAID (Native American Indian Dog) can be traced back to the 1500s, during which time the indigenous peoples of North America had domesticated their own companion and working-type dog. They greatly resemble wolves from the start, leading to the belief that they were crossed with coyotes at one time. They were once used for hunting, hiking, and the protection of children; the Lakota, Dakota, and Cheyenne people were known to raise these dogs for food as well. While most of the other old breeds have gone extinct (with the exception of the Alaskan Malamute and the Greenland Dog) the NAID has thrived. According to a study done in 2018 which traced the DNA components of living dogs as well as fossilized remnants, these dogs originated in Siberia and crossed to North America about 4,500 years after humans did; from there, they were tamed and domesticated. The same sort of history could be said for the wolf, who originated in Eurasia and followed the same path - minus the domestication.

Cornelius is young and so his full size has not been realized yet. If he were pure wolf he might average out to being around one-hundred pounds, but as he is a mutt and is influenced by those domesticated genetics, his appearance is a little more slim and trim than a pure wolf. His northern breed aesthetic carries through strongly, regardless. The NAID is typically a wild-looking creature with a working-dog's conformation, and while they tend to max out at one-hundred-twenty pounds, they do not have the same natural strength or tenacity of their wild brethren. Cornelius is somewhere in the range of ninety to one-hundred-five pounds, most of which is collected across his shoulders and in the ponch of his belly. His thick double-coat makes him look a little more hefty but it blows-out in the spring, at which time his lanky body becomes apparent.

As for his coat's composition, his under-coat is dense and the color of lightly steeped tea. His snout is lined in an off-white, as well as his expressive brows. His face is capped with cinerous shades of ginger and copper. The same reds line his inner ear, darkening on the backs to a ruddy brown. The longer hairs of his outer coat (concentrated across his shoulders like a barbarian's mantle) grow in abundance during the winter and afford him a red cape of sorts; most of these guard hairs are tipped in a dark espresso. While his body is primarily coated in the wheat-cream mixture the rufus red of his face is quite striking. This color appears interspersed within his tail fur and collects near the tip again, sort-of like a Turkish Van cat.

Personality
Creative, passionate, generous, warm, cheerful, humorous, stubborn, inflexible. Enjoys being admired, and is driven by the praise of others. Dislikes being ignored or treated less than he feels he deserves. Has a hard time coping with reality sometimes — substitutes his own whenever things get too dark. Has a habit of focusing too strongly on what he wants versus what would benefit the whole, and as a result he tends to "drop" friends as easily as he picks them up. Prone to being abrasive when he gets his way; if he were one of the seven deadly sins he would be "pride". Young and fearless, but ill-suited to become a warrior (except that's his dream, so he won't give it up easily) and quite intelligent despite all of his faults.
Biography
He was kicked out of his home when he challenged the wrong person for their rank. Rather than accept his defeat with grace he became unbearable to be around, costing his pack a few good meals when he chose to harass his target rather than pay attention during some very important and very necessary hunts. When he let his mouth run a little too long in the company of leadership, it was the last straw. He lingered as the pack's omega for a few weeks but eventually realized they would not take him back, so he dispersed.
