After departing from Arthendal and the wilds for good, Chaff's grandfather, Shink, sought to rebuild Bluegrass Meadow from the ground up. He met a coyote woman who called herself Kittiwake and the pair settled in Kikuyo Hollow where their family soon grew.

Following Shink's passing, their son Shearwater decided to lead the pack alongside his partner Nafula. Kittiwake wandered off soon after their first litter was born, never to be seen again.

Chaffinch was raised by a steadfast mother and flighty father, later deciding to disperse and return to his grandfather's old haunts.
