Wapun Meadow baby bird

the male kept his head near the ground. he knew he had to hunt something before the pangs of hunger were too much to bare. he kept his maw parted slightly, letting the surrounding aromas to fill mouth. sadly, he couldn’t pick up any prey sent. issun lifted his head and grunted his frustration.

rolled for success via tabletop on discord using evens = success and odds = failure.

she stalked with care through the meadow.  prey was difficult to find here as the lands were expansive and open, but the tall grasses provided easy shelter for smaller game.  

hunting was becoming exceptionally difficult as she became more obviously gravid, but she had found a streak of luck the past few days.

she set about the meadow that day with her nose to the ground and unlike the wolf that waited nearby she had found something.  it was a small ptarmigan, and although she was not hungry she could store it for later.

she swept in quickly and snatched it in her jaws, giving it a shake until it hung lifeless and continued through the valley confidently.

she saw the stranger while she was still at a distance.  although her mouth was full she did her best at issuing a chuff and closed some of the space between them, her mismatched eyes setting on his ragged and bony form.

the smell of fresh meat announced the woman’s presence before anything. his eyes twinkled with hope, only to be disappointed to find the prey claimed by another.

issun greeted her with a nod, followed by a “hello”. the two wolves were polar opposites, one looking well fed while the other’s fur clung to his sides. he managed to catch the sent of other wolves on her and assumed she resides within a pack.

she ghosted forward, dropping the ptarmigan in front of the stranger.  she had done this once before with another wolf, and it had been done to her by alexander.  he was obviously more starved than she (although pregnant, she did need the sustenance).

hallo, she said, her voice rough and clipped.  her nose lowered to the ptarmigan as she flipped it with her nose closer to the stranger.

he couldn’t hide his pleasure when the fowl was dropped before him. his ears pricked and his eyes lit up like a pup’s. issun looked up at the female, down at the bird, and up again.

“thank you,” he chirped with delight before gorging on the kill. once his hunger was satisfied, he stood up. “can i repay you in some way?” he asked. he felt obligated to return the favor.

she scented him over.  he smelled of no pack, of no family.  it made her sad; perhaps it was the hormones from the pregnancy that made her this way.

she did not understand his words, but tentatively, she threw her head back towards the valley.  come home with me, she beckoned in her silence.  she took two steps towards home.  let me take care of you.

he shifted his gaze towards the mountain range that faced them. he looked back down to see the female beckoning him to follow her.

curiosity and astonishment washed over his features. he stepped to her side, wondering what she had in mind.

a maternal golden glow stirred within her and coated her visibly.  she softened, taking several more hopeful steps towards the valley.

but she had tried this before, and each time she had failed.  she struggled, trying to find a word to convey what she wanted.  she settled on home, gesturing towards bearclaw with her head and hope in her heart.

as she stepped forward, so did he. his mind raced with questions. where exactly was she be taking him?

home.

“home?” he repeated with astonishment. a light went off in his head. was she inviting him to join her ranks? the thought of living amongst other wolves excited him. he beamed and nodded, indicating he wanted to go with her

may i put up a separate joining thread?  i'd like to use it for guardian specialty if i may.

she became unable to contain her delight at his acknowledgment of her question.  he did not seem deterred by her lack of english, either!

she trotted towards bearclaw with pep in her step, but cast several careful glances behind her as she'd let one too many hopefuls slip away.

yep!

he followed in pursuit, his pace falling into a gleeful trot. he was a bit nervous when he thought about what might happened when they got there, but joy overpowered his fear.
