All Welcome

these must be willow, she thinks, clouds brought down to earth and given skeletons. she pauses in her step behind @Lily when she is near enough to a particularily large one, chestnut gaze narrowing as she tries to imagine it in summer, all adorned with leaves. now, the branches drape low, dusted lightly with snow and ice. the dark outlines of the trunk and larger branches within give the illusion of a skeleton; a beautiful cloudy corpse. though she thinks she knows the answer, she asks, just to be sure, "is this a willow? why does it look so...tired?" sad isn't quite the right word, either, but the way in which the tree sways heavily, it's branches low and hanging, make it appear so much older then all the other trees which stand bare with branches pushing upward.
hope this is alright! I can backdate to any day that works best for you :)

I think we're good just dating it back to the evening they met! Also pinging @Sunny on this

The journey passed well enough; maybe a little quiet, but Lily was still deep in thought. The girl's question brought a smile to her lips, though, and she peered up at the drooping branches, her shoulders lifting in a gentle shrug. Yes, it is—you know, I'm not exactly sure why, she answered, hoping the answer would suffice.

One thing she knew—as a kid, she had thought that adults knew everything. Now she knew that not to be true, but boy, you could sure make it sound like you did, even if you said otherwise.

Every tree is different, she mustered, glancing at Fern. These just happen to be a little more different than others. Apt metaphor for the girl herself, Lily supposed. She had only once before seen a wolf that looked like her.

The pair traipsed on through the forest, Lily sending up a quick howl to anyone who might receive them, so that she could pass on the circumstances of Fern's visit here.

Sunny was also traipsing around the forest, patrolling and sniffing around for whatever he could find to bring to a cache and help out. He had already caught the scent of Lily and who he assumed was a new guest so when her call went up it didn't take very long for him to amble up to them. He greeted Lily with a smile and then turned the same welcoming expression to the unknown female "Hello! You needed something?" he asked returning his gaze to Lily.

Sorry for the shortness. Been struggling with muse

fading this out

Turns out, Sunny was more than willing to take Fern himself, as he was familiar with the island she sought. That was perfectly fine with Lily; she wasn't much up, at least physically, for a trip over there. She let them work out the details, then ushered the girl to a warm den to sleep for the night.

Things were thus settled.
