This is a Hunting trade Thread.
The prey in question is a herd of Mule Deer. This post is open to 2-3 wolves willing to join the hunt - one wolf can join but that will make the hunt more difficult. We will take two turns to plan then start the hunt. When the hunt starts, I’ll roll a 1d5, more wolves mean a higher die number. 2 wolves is a 1d10, 3 wolves is a 1d15.
Odd numbers mean a failed hunt and even numbers mean a Successful hunt.

「Her nose was low and eyes focused on the soil beneath her like there was something so enthralling about it that she just couldn’t take her eyes off. That wasn’t far from the truth, partially sunken into the dirt, scattered, overlapping but all moving in a similar direction were tear-shaped hooven prints. Deer tracks leading her right into the embrace of Emberwoods. A good-sized herd from the looks of it.
Must be seeking a safe place to rest — probably thought that the cover of deep foliage and trees would keep them hidden for the night. She glanced up into the sky.
A blanket of darkness gradually began stretching across the sky the moment Hati’s sun began to sink, it was still just peeking above the western horizon. Most would begin tucking themselves away into their dens, but not her. Not tonight. Before the sun sleeps, she’ll be gorging herself one of those deer. It’s been a while since she last consumed an ample meal, suitable for a wolf her size. Morsels could only do so much...
With her dark fur, she essentially vanished into the dense near-black foliage of the woods, following the trail. She hoped that the herd would have some elderly, maybe some injured any would work as long as she was feasting on one by nightfall. She moved soundlessly through the woods, her movements betraying her size, a dark mass shifting this way and that through the trees. All she needs is a slight glimpse of her quarry then she’ll hunker down and plan. She casually trotted about two miles into the woodlands when the pungent musky scent of deer hit her nose with the changing wind, she could detect movement beyond the trees. Aeliana dipped behind a thicket, laying down to her belly. They were about ... several feet ahead of her in a small clearing, their breathing calm and steady. They didn't notice her and the wind was in her favor. Good. She takes in a soft deep breath before closing her eyes, quietly preparing for the Hunt ahead of her. 」

This is the law of the Jungle, as old and as true as the sky, And the wolf that shall keep it may prosper, but the wolf that shall break it must die.
As the creeper that girdles the tree trunk, the law runneth forward and back; For the strength of the pack is the wolf, and the strength of the wolf is the pack.

(This post was last modified: September 05, 2020, 04:22 PM by Lunaria.)
There were deer who walked amongst these trees — the huntress could smell them.
Lunaria was just about to track back the trail leading towards her witchy traveling partner, but when her little nose caught the scent of nearby ungulates, she couldn't help but investigate.
Catching deer by herself was not Lunaria's specialty, due unfortunately to the dame's size, and she was only relied upon to provoke and round up the prey while the largest in the hunting parties went for the kill. It wasn't something that particularly urked Luna — she never expected to be picked first over her larger yearling counterparts afterall — but it did make her feel like she wasn't doing her best as a huntress. Far from home and all on her own — this was the opportunity she'd need to test her skill, and finally prove that there was a way to do it alone.
That was gonna be a long time from present time though. For now, all Lunaria could do was watch from a distance and dream.
Bright, turquoise orbs shifted to the side and widened when landing on a robust figure just ahead. Panic-fueled adrenaline flooded through Luna's veins when mistaking it for a grizzly, but with one whiff of the air she'd quickly realize it was but a wolf — quite a large one as a matter of fact. It seemed as if they were looking at the deer as well. "Aren't they a gorgeous looking herd?" Luna whisped quitely to the large woman while carfully walking over to her. "I can help you catch one if you wish? Huntings no fun alone..."

So focused on the potential prey ahead, Aliana didn’t notice the other wolf coming up behind her until they spoke. And by the gods, did she nearly leaped out of her pelt. Her head snapped towards the smaller ebony wolf and soon relaxed somewhat, breathing out an exasperated sigh. She hates being snuck up on! God forbid if the wolfess was a bear or a cougar. She already had a bad experience with bears...and don't get her started on cougars...
When they mentioned how gorgeous the herd size, Aliana looked back at the herd, ❝Guess you could say that...❞ She murmured softly, eyeing over the herd with a thoughtful gaze. She didn’t recognize any antlers amongst them.
Must be a herd of females and yearlings. Good...
She was silent for a moment before meeting the wolfess' turquoise with her sapphire, ❝Help would be nice...❞ Another pair of jaws would ensure the quarry would be taken down.
❝Name's Aliana... You?❞

As Lunaria's presence was noticed coming up behind them, their head would snap back in an alarming manner — Guess the dame never got over her habit of scaring the shit out of others. To her relief, however, the bearish woman's defenses soothed and didn't show much aggression; she'd regarded her trivial little question — fun. Lunaria huffed a smile in relief.
Their attention seemed more fixated on the herd ahead of them rather than Luna herself, but she responded positively to her offer on helping and Luna's tail whipped in anticipating glee.
'Aliana', was this bearish woman's name, and what a lovely pair of sapphire orbs she had as well. Lunaria found her a lovely sight to look at. "You can call me Lunaria. A pleasure doing business with you." She hunmed with a freindly smile, turning her cranium back towards the herd. "Now then, how would you like to go about this? Ambush, chase, or both?" The options offered by the small damsel were merely placeholders. If anything, she'd expected Aliana to know what she wanted to happen next.

Aliana pondered for a moment, ❝Ambush...❞She suggested, ❝And if it comes it...we chase. Go after the slowest in the herd. ❞ But that was just in case the herd decides to bolt before they spring their attack. She hoped the wind would still stay in their favor while they moved into position.
❝We have to time this though, they never really sleep, only brief naps from time to time. We have to attack when they have close their eyes.❞ Aliana plotted out, ❝ A pincher maneuver could work—you from the left, me from the right. Catch them off guard. They’ll scatter, but one of us just has to grab one of them and hold them in place long enough for the other to come over to help take it down. Easy.❞
At least that's how she thought it out in her head. It was funny to think that year prior she was unconfident in her abilities, willing to sit back and let others lead the charge. Now, she was the one leading a hunt, she was proud of herself.
She glances at the black wolfess, ❝What do you think? That should secure us some dinner for tonight.❞

I have finally revived the thread mwhahahahaha
She listened to the plan and nodded while taking in the information, attention switching from Aliana to the herd in question. The woman knew more about her targets than Lunaria expected, and she was quite pleased to be working with someone who clearly had experience -- this way, the hunt had higher chances of success.
"I don't mind waiting till the time comes, I'm patient enough." She whispered quietly while searching for any obvious signs of lethargy from the herd. Possibly an odd one out that looked the most out-of-shape -- they were usually easier to catch. There was no way Luna would be able to secure one of these beast on her own given her size, but if she could locate a vital point for a quick stun before they noticed her, she'll be fine. Stalking was another one of her strengths afterall.
"The plan sounds good. I'm ready when you are."
