He hasn’t found a single thing.
No drop of blood, no clump of hair, no word of mouth of the man he was starting to forget. Nothing of Maxim.
Sable was lost. He drifted, slow, as if Maxim would crawl out of the ground before him and confess to a journey through the hells to come back to his son. But nothing.
His progress was slow. He took his time, ate and slept and bathed. The result was the bear of a boy winding up here. A gentle mist about his legs, early morning dew wetting the fur until he was slicked down to his undercoat. The boy had his head lowered, following the scent of a beaver, though he didn’t know what that was yet.

Massaraq had followed the trails further from the territory than he had intended, farther than he ever gone from Moonglow before. And somewhere along the way he had lost himself. A growl of frustration rested in his throat but he did not speak it. Hunger gnawed at him and this far from the packlands he could not dependably find someone to help him with larger game. So when he came upon the scent of a beaver and heard water he aligned his pathway there.
Frustration dogged his steps but he forced himself to be quiet, to try to apply what he had learned. Clumsily if that. This was not the time to be frustrated with himself, to allow anger to take hold and yet he felt all his uselessness and could not help the resentment at that.

The sound of footsteps.
Sable raised his head, peering through the brush to try and find the interloper. He strode that way, ensuring to step on a few branches as he went. Just to be sure he was heard.
The youth in front of him was around his age, dressed in grey and blue. He let out a hum, turning into something of a subsonic thuum. He had learned, in his time away, that not everyone understood the language he spoke with his feet.

Hi.He tried anyway, in Ptero, paws thumping against the ground.

The sound of someone approaching caused Massaraq to turn. The stranger though did not greet him except by shuffling his paws. "Hey. I'm Massaraq." He greeted them with a wide smile slashed across his face. Glad to see someone else, perhaps this hunt was not completely lost and even it was at least he had company. Perhaps this wolf would at least know a faster way back to Moonglow than wandering vaguely northward.
