Mahler and his pack had gone.
Argent had come to the borders of the man's pack and found the scents whiddled to nothing by the wind and weather. Sparse--an achingly empty land.
He would have taken to exploring... to search for the man and assure himself nothing had fallen upon his only father figure, but his hesitancy drew from something unfamiliar to him a churning in his gut.
Only when he walked to the lands of his birth did he feel his heart settle.
Fear of losing a loved one had gripped him, then.
Refusing to look further allowed him to paint a prettier assumption in his mind--that Mahler and his exceptionally cranky mate had relocated... finding peace in another home.
And as he looked to the lake, his fear turned to disappointment in himself.
He was a coward.
