He knows it will be easy. He can smell it on her fur, see it on her face.

The guard invites her on a patrol, for he knows she won't refuse. Gentle promises are made; she will be taken care of, treated well. She will earn the approval of the Matriarche.

He knows that his mother's approval is what Palade craves.

The weapon is unappealing, curt. He is not attracted to her in the least, but Chaudry knows well from watching the wolves of his natal pack that it is not attraction that matters. To sire a litter is to make a transaction, nothing more.

She will provide him with a litter, and he will give her status.

For a brief moment she is unsure, but the Grande Glaieul makes the decision easy.

Children were always something she hoped for. To settle down with a mate of her own and watch their offspring grow. Maybe Chaudry will not be a partner, but he promises to care for her nonetheless. To care for their children.

They walk in silence for some time, ensuring that they are far from the densite and prying eyes. The process is simple, though she finds that he is more aggressive than is likely necessary. Her own state makes it easy to bare.

A grab of the scruff, his weight on hers, it is easy enough to learn.

He keeps her still with his mass, keeps her quiet with the occasional snarl.

With the deed done, he shakes his own fur out and stares at her laying in the snow before stepping away. She is pitiful, but necessary.
