Xan out. Self preservation is strong with him, lmao.
It’d happened quickly. One moment, the child had been trying to gain the attention of the mother, then the next he was being pushed backwards. It sent him into a daze, temporarily, as the pain of the hit slivered its way throughout his body. The starting point, his side, hurt the most, and he had to check himself to ensure no blood had been drawn. Satisfied by the lack of the crimson substance, his head snapped back around and he found himself facing a rather large wolf. He didn’t know who he was, nor did he really care. The only thing running through the boy’s minds was thoughts of how he’d get payback for that cheap shot. Of course, he felt he’d done absolutely nothing wrong. It was his first time encountering such a situation, leaving him completely unprepared for it. Sure, he’d been around wolves who’d recently had children before, but those wolves were his parents. He’d had no choice but to be around them, and certainly wouldn’t have ever been chased away for getting too close to his home.
The angry voice of the man reached Xan’s ears soon after, causing for them to fold back neatly against his crown. The fur along his back bristled on instinct, the feel of a threat encouraging his body to make itself appear larger. No matter how thick his fur was, though, he was still way too young to even come close to the tank’s hefty size. “I heard noises,” he voiced, unconsciously defending himself. Never did his eyes leave Burke’s form, not wanting to take the risk of him bulldozing into him again. The child attempted to peek around the major roadblock, but was left seeing nothing but the grey coat. Seriously, what did the wolves in Blackfeather eat that made them so big? Pulling his gaze back to the face of the unknown guard, he continued to watch him for a second or so longer, before taking a few steps backwards. He wanted to ask what those wiggling things inside the den were, but also didn’t want to spend anymore time near the tank of a wolf. He’d made a terrible impression on Xan, that was for sure.
Though he had wished to stay longer, the better half of his mind urged him to go elsewhere. There was no way in hell he’d be able to take on the guard, not while he was still so young and small. While he hated to admit to that, he couldn’t help but do so just to rationalize with himself. With a huff, Xan went on his way, but made it clear he was leaving because he wanted to, and not because some elder had told him to. Seriously, it was as if he had an everlasting bad streak with silver and grey wolves. Perhaps later he would come back to ask Meldresi what the little creatures were, but only when he was sure Burke was nowhere in sight. Nothing would make him willing to have the beast's hard head ram into his side again.
I can give it all to you, will you take it all from me
