For a solid week following the showdown on Nocturne Summit, Peregrine's life hung in the balance. He slept continuously, rousing only to relieve himself, get a drink of water and nibble on whatever scraps of meat were left near his nose, most likely by Fox. On the fourth day, he vomited an alarming amount of blood. He felt better after that, though, and by some crazy coincidence, he discovered some little white flowers blooming near his resting spot at the edge of the rendezvous site. He recognized them as yarrow and nibbled at them, remembering very vaguely something Blue Willow had once mentioned about their medicinal qualities. Peregrine couldn't recall details but it couldn't hurt, could it?
On the seventh day, he awoke feeling decidedly feverish. Worried that he had sustained an internal infection, he downed some more yarrow blossoms, then proceeded to drift in and out of sleep rife with fever dreams. When he roused the next day, he was still uncomfortably warm but Peregrine felt well enough to help himself to another dose of yarrow, then stand and walk slowly around the rendezvous site. He was finally awake and cognizant enough to worry about the state of his family. Where were Fox and the boys? What about the Blackthorns? Anything could have happened while he was more or less down for the count.
There was nobody else here, which made Peregrine swallow worriedly. Then, lifting his swarthy muzzle, the Alpha called for someone, anyone, to come to him and give him the latest report.
