Amber was not in the mood to be soothed. It made Grayday's job that much harder, but he supposed he had no room to complain. Part of him wanted to mention his own brief flirtation with Lotte to even the playing field, but he wasn't sure that would help anything, at this point. Besides - Lotte wasn't following him around like a sad little kitten.
Still, it was an exercise of patience to simply continue his grooming and not immediately react to the harsh words.
"Life isn't fair," he said after a moment, jaws parted as he chewed over his next words. "What do you want me to do, Amber? We're both here; Nobody's forcing us. If you want one of us to leave, you can say it - but let's stop playing the blame game. It's getting us nowhere, and I'm tired of seeing the two of you so sullen."
By the end of his little speech, Day felt a little bad about the tone he was taking - not harsh or angry, but too cold to be using against the mother of his children.
"Look," he murmured, softening, "I know this isn't ideal, and I know you're feeling bad about all that went on - but dwelling on it makes it worse, not better. Tell us what you want, and we'll make it happen. Right, Dag?"
The last words were directed pointedly at their quiet companion.
