The stranger's reply caused a chill to crawl down Wildfire's spine. She couldn't help but think of Goober. He hadn't been creepy like this, at least at first, and when the unfamiliar wolf stepped inside the tree, she could see that they looked nothing alike. She swallowed thickly, her fight-or-flight response kicking into high gear. Perhaps he was just toying with her, bluffing. But... maybe not.

She was a diplomat by profession and yet her mouth was dry and she couldn't find her words. Instead, Wildfire let him inch closer and then, without any warning whatsoever, she rushed him. She didn't aim to make contact at all, just take him by surprise and then hopefully dart around him to make an escape.

To Wildfire's surprise, she succeeded, fleeing into the woods without so much as a scratch.
