The boy spent a great deal of his time haunting the same locales within the forest: the glen, its surrounding forest, the southern borders, and Redgrove in the territory's heart. He sometimes strayed further north in search of Euron or Maegi, and never went east due to the prevalence of water in that direction. A deep-seated sense of self-preservation warned him away from drowning hazards, which was very lucky for one small dwarf.
That day he went further west than he ever had before, and found himself descending toward a wide, gaping maw tucked into the side of a taller hill. Ramsay wasn't a very imaginative child, lacking some of the essential formative interactions that would lend him creativity, and so he saw only a cave. The jagged stone descending from its roof and jutting out of the entryway didn't resemble teeth to him; the pelts strewn about didn't resemble half-consumed animals falling into the devil's own mouth. It was just a cave, decorated much like the pack borders were, which Ramsay took for granted as a typical feature of packs.
He paused before he reached the bottom of his own hill, lifting up on his tippy-toes in order to tilt his head marginally and scent the air. Since the wolf who most commonly resided here was a long-time member of the pack, Ramsay found nothing remarkable about this place, but curiosity still drove him down at an awkward stunted trot toward the cave after several beats.
