Mudminnow River nobody blames you

She raises her head to look at him when he speaks.  He says, "I won't bite, girl," but he is too large and too confident for her to trust him.  Okay.  Her gaze is steely and her voice is rough and flat, cutting out at almost every other syllable.  

She ghosts closer, trying to quell the shake in her limbs.  She tries to feel all of the things she knows she can be: powerful, attractive, tenacious.  It works to a point.  She feels less stupid, at least, and that's enough.
