@Ibis
It took two weeks for Sarah to get over herself and stop sulking about her failed suicide attempt. Ironically the first thought that had come to her mind after she had dragged herself out of the water was So, you cannot do even this right. How low can you go?!, which was depressing for the first seven days.
On the eight, while feasting on a hare, she had revisitted that and a hint of a grin and inner amusement had reflected in her eyes and expression. Far from a genuine smile, but it was a start. It had taken another nine days for her to see a joke in the whole, rather embarrassing situation. Paraphrasing a movie quote by Jennifer Coolidge: Think about all the people, who [hang] drowned themselves. And the next morning they feel different and there is nothing they can do about it.
And then she did something she had not done in almost a year. Sarah laughed and it, while not lasting very long, it was sincere and true, coming from the depths of her heart, filling her body and mind with ease that had not been present there before. She humoured herself with the same joke over and over again, embracing, how wonderful it felt to have fun in her life again.
