He didn't answer her, but then again he didn't seem to be too much of the sort for conversation. It left her awkward, stuck out like a sore thumb that didn't quite know how to talk her way into a better path of conversation, and she reassessed him to herself. She'd have to be persistent if she wanted to make any sort of rapport; she couldn't afford to shy away and find some reason to excuse herself.

It didn't stop her from continuing to be inquisitive, at least.

"So," her voice trailed, "have you been with Merrick long?" She felt she already knew the answer—long enough—and that was one the assumption he bothered to answer her anyway.
