Remembering that he lifted his chin higher and though his ears shifted back and his tail remained at a slow sway he stood prouder before the Alpha as he announced to her the news summarized "Serem left us taking her mate with her...presumably abandonment as she hadn't been doing anything aside from using the cache for a while. Her children left before her...admittedly she may be searching. A few others abandoned as well leaving us with too few to keep a real guard.
