the past month had given them a lot to think about. they were still more than willing to follow praimfaya for now. whatever her allies thought of them, they'd do what she directed; she was the one they were answering to.
but even with the entertaining prospect of everyone she led them to being suspicious – and they should be, and it was good to see not everyone else had donovan's judgment – they weren't one to sit around. the coast was still vaguely familiar, from back when the saints had claimed ravensblood forest. but there was nothing wrong with practice.
renard kept to the shore's edge as they walked, muffling their steps under sand and crashing waves. nowhere to hide here, either. redsand canyon might have made them a little used to no cover, and the sky was darkening already, but all the open space still made them a little uneasy.
the old scents had finally come off their fur. easier to deal with, since no one was...particularly pleased with the saints. renard's description had, apparently, gotten around, and the tail was unmistakable, but for the time being, they had no desire to wander into neverwinter forest.
donovan's ill conceived spying missions would have sent someone there, too. he hadn't bothered with yuèlóng, apparently, so this was the only option. and nobody in the saints had so much as an idea of what discretion meant, or they wouldn't have so neatly ruined their alliance with ursus.
maybe next time donovan would think – but who were they kidding. of course he wouldn't. and that was fine; it would just make their job easier.
